PNP reports no threats during BARMM COC filing period

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported no threats during the certificate of candidacy (COC) filing period for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections.

“Police presence in key areas in BARMM was strengthened and checkpoints were also established to prevent any disruption to peace and order during the final stretch of the filing period,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Despite the heightened alert, the PNP reported that no security threats were monitored in relation to the COC filing period,” he maintained.

The top cop further said police officials will work closely with their respective local government units as part of security measures for the BARMM elections.

“We are committed to making the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections safe, fair and credible,” Nartatez added.

The COC filing period for the BARMM elections began on Tuesday, May 5 and will end on Thursday, May 7.

The BARMM elections are scheduled on September 14. /jpv
