Taiwan startups flex innovation at SelectUSA

WASHINGTON, USA, (TaiwanToday) – A delegation led by National Development Council (NDC) minister Yeh Chun-hsien and economic minister Kung Ming-hsin attended the 2026 SelectUSA Investment Summit May 3 in National Harbor, Maryland.

The NDC said the two ministers spoke with the 37 local firms participating in the event, and offered congratulations to eight firms that are short-listed for the tech program at the US Department of Commerce event.

Yeh said Taiwan has long been one of the largest foreign delegations to the highest-profile investment summit in the US adding that its participation is highly valued by the organiser.

The US is a key market for and a major partner of Taiwanese startups, the minister continued. These firms demonstrate great innovation in smart sectors such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, national defense and energy, as well as strong potential for global market expansion, he added.

The NDC said that among the 37 local startups at the event, five had been short-listed in the NDC’s Entrepreneurship Alliance Competition, part of the Startup Bloom Program. The program offers more than NT$300 million (US$9.49 million) in financial support, training and consultations to help candidates expand their global reach.

The NDC launched the Startup Island Taiwan Silicon Valley Hub in January 2025. The council said its cooperative platform connects Taiwan’s innovation strengths with global markets by offering consultations and resource matchmaking services, and has benefitted more than 200 startups so far.
