CCP, Known For Eve Online, Buys Control From South Korean Parent Company

Six years after a sale to South Korean company Pearl Abyss, CCP has reached an agreement to bring control of the company back to Iceland. Originally sold to Pearl Abyss for 26 billion ISK, management has reported that they were able to buy control back for 15 billion ISK.

The Reykjavík Grapevine originally reported on the 2018 sale to Pearl Abyss. At that time, the reported purchase price was 46 billion ISK. However, as documented in recent reporting by Vísir, CCP did not meet certain benchmarks, and the actual initial sale price was 26 billion.

As we reported in October 2018, CCP hoped to use the cash infusion and influence to make waves in popular culture. However, since that purchase, CCP ran at a loss.

The timing of the event is fortuitous, as CCP’s celebration, Eve Online Fanfest, takes place May 14-16 at Harpa in Reykjavík. Tickets are available here.
