Mudflows flood homes and social Facilities in Manas. Recovery efforts underway
AKIPRESS.COM – Mudflows flooded homes and social facilities in the city of Manas: more than 300 people and special equipment involved in response efforts.
In the city of Manas, intensive work is underway to eliminate the consequences of mudflows, the regional government of Jalal-Abad region reported.
On May 3, at around 10:40 pm, heavy rain caused mudflows to descend from ravines flooding a number of social facilities and residential buildings in the city.
As a result of the natural disaster, four social facilities were affected. In particular, mudflow waters flooded the yard of the Interior Ministry’s security department, the basement of a medical college, the city gas service building, and the yard of the “Kyrgyz Temir Jolu” enterprise. Water also entered a large supermarket.
In addition, 39 residential houses were affected: entrances of 2 apartment buildings, interiors of 11 houses, and yards of 26 houses were flooded by mudflow waters. A residential house on Erkindik Street was left in an emergency condition, and an internal road leading from the city of Manas to the Dacha area was also damaged.
A total of 314 people and 15 units of equipment have been deployed in the response efforts.
At present, several areas have been cleared, including the yards of the Interior Ministry’s security department and the “Kyrgyz Temir Jolu” enterprise, the city gas service building, the supermarket premises, basements of 5 residential houses, and yards of 9 homes. Erkindik Street, T. Baizakov Avenue, and the internal road to the Dacha area have been fully reopened.
