A 40-year-old man is expected to appear in court today in connection with an alleged attack on a police officer at a roadblock in Laqere.
Authorities say the accused was among three individuals travelling in a vehicle that allegedly drove straight into the checkpoint, where an officer was on duty.
He was later taken to hospital and discharged from Colonial War Memorial Hospital on 1 May 2026.
Following advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, he now faces charges of attempted murder, serious assault, and possession of equipment intended for theft or related offences.
He is scheduled to be presented before the Nasinu Magistrates Court on Monday, 4 May 2026.
Meanwhile, the other two suspects remain hospitalized. The injured police officer is still receiving treatment and is reported to be in critical condition.
