Questions continue to surface over six-figure payouts in the Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon claims office.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Questions continue to surface over six-figure payouts in the Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon claims office.
4 Investigates brought the issue to light in January, and now the controversy is appearing on NBC Nightly News.
The former director and deputy director of FEMA’s Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office are on leave after 4 Investigates exposed they both received six-figure payouts.
So far, FEMA has not answered 4 Investigates’ questions.
In the meantime, FEMA is reducing its footprint in Northern New Mexico.
County leaders in Mora showed 4 Investigates empty pads where portable units once housed FEMA workers.
The Mora claims office has also moved out of a rented building and into the county building so people who live nearby can still meet face to face with the people handling their claims.
