13-year-old boy killed in traffic accident with e-scooter

A 13-year-old boy was killed in a traffic accident with an e-scooter in his home village in Makrisia, Ilia, in Peloponnese on Wednesday afternoon.

Together with a friend in another scooter, the boy was strolling through the narrow streets of the village, without a helmet and at a high speed, as media reported.

At some point he made a maneuver to avoid a parked vehicle, he swerved into the opposite direction and collided head-on with a farmer’s pick up truck.

The loud noise of the collision had locals jump out of their homes to see what had happened.

The seriously injured boy was rushed with an ambulance to the hospital of Krestena located a few meters away.

Doctors tried to revive the boy with CPR , however, in the end they could only confirm his death.

Speaking to newsit.gr, the boy’s uncle described in detail how the tragic incident occurred.

“I arrived at the scene after three minutes and saw my nephew on the road covered in blood,” he said.

Evaluating the accident, he said that his nephew was probably got scared when he saw the truck in front of him.

“The man on the truck had slowed down because he had already passed by another scooter, because it’s a village, they always run on their scooters. The car was almost stopped. So he didn’t come to hit him on a road. I can’t blame the man,” the uncle noted.

In 2025, 109 traffic accidents involving electric scooters were recorded in Greece, two of which were fatal.

Mid-March another minor on e-scooter was injured on the island of Corfu and had to be transferred to an Athens hospital who remained hospitalized and intubated. He survived.

A month earlier, a 48-year-old man died after an accident with his e-scooter in Central Athens.

The new Greek Road Traffic Code provides for strict penalties for violations, including not wearing a helmet and speeding.

However, as Greeks love to ignore the laws, doctors from all over the country have been sounding the alarm about electric scooters, which are becoming one of the main causes of adult injuries and are filling the emergency rooms of pediatric clinics.

The boy’s parents have not been arrested for exposing a minor to danger due to negligence.
