No. 7 Arkansas 4, No. 5 Texas 3 — Final

The Razorbacks (41-9, 15-8 SEC) have stormed into Austin and taken a series.

They looked lifeless through 5 2/3 innings before piecing together some 2-out magic in the fifth.

Freshman right-hander Saylor Timmerman had the biggest outing of her young career and shut the door on Texas (38-10, 15-8) in the seventh.

Ashton Maloney popped up to third base before Kayden Henry struck out looking on a big pitch from Timmerman. Katie Stewart fouled out to third base for the final out.

Arkansas 4, Texas 3 — Middle 7th Inning

Kennedy Miller led off with an infield single toward first base to give Arkansas a runner.

Reagan Johnson struck out swinging for the inning’s first out before Brinli Bain reached on a fielder’s choice.

Ella McDowell was robbed of a hit to end the inning. She had a sharp liner that Texas third baseman Jaycie Nichols jumped up and snagged.

Due up for Texas: Ashton Maloney, Kayden Henry and Katie Stewart.

Arkansas 4, Texas 3 — End 6th Inning

Saylor Timmerman made some big pitches in the sixth.

Leighann Goode drew a leadoff 4-pitch walk and swiped second base on a wild pitch before Hannah Wells struck out swinging.

Kaiah Altmeyer grounded out to second base but advanced Goode to third for the inning’s second out.

Jaycie Nichols struck out swinging to leave the tying run 60 feet away from home.

Due up for Arkansas in the seventh: Kennedy Miller, Reagan Johnson and Brinli Bain.

Arkansas 4, Texas 3 — Middle 6th Inning

Teagan Kavan made quick work of the Razorbacks in the sixth.

Karlie Davison struck out swinging, Atalyia Rijo grounded out to second base and Kyler Del Duca struck out swinging.

Arkansas 4, Texas 3 — End 5th Inning

Saylor Timmerman has put together a pair of nice innings in relief.

Kayden Henry drew a leadoff 4-pitch walk before a strikeout of Katie Stewart looking.

Viviana Martinez followed suit with a strikeout looking, and Henry stole second base during Reese Atwood’s at-bat. 

Atwood flied out to left field to end the inning.

Due up for Arkansas: Karlie Davison, Atalyia Rijo and Kyler Del Duca.

Arkansas 4, Texas 3 — Middle 5th Inning

Tianna Bell drew a walk to lead the bases for Dakota Kennedy, who struck out swinging.

Arkansas did plenty of damage in the inning though, scoring 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 errors.

Arkansas 4, Texas 3 — Top 5th Inning

With a pair of runners in scoring position and Tianna Bell up in a count 2-1, the Longhorns are making a pitching change.

Texas is inserting right-handed ace Teagan Kavan into the game.

Arkansas 4, Texas 3 — Top 5th Inning

Things have really started to derail for the Longhorns with 2 outs in the fifth.

Ella McDowell had a slow roller back to Cambria Salmon in the circle, but she overthrew the throw to first base.

Reagan Johnson scored from second base and the Razorbacks have the lead.

Tianna Bell is at the plate with a pair of runners in scoring position.

Arkansas 3, Texas 3 — Top 5th Inning

A fielding error by Viviana Martinez on a grounder to shortstop by Brinli Bain tied the game 3-3.

The Razorbacks are still threatening with Ella McDowell at the plate and runners at first and second.

Texas 3, Arkansas 2 — Top 5th Inning

Reagan Johnson slapped an RBI single through the left side to get the Razorbacks within 3-2.

Brinli Bain is stepping to the plate with runners at the corners and 2 outs.

Texas is making a pitching change, replacing Citlaly Gutierrez with sophomore right-hander Cambria Salmon (2.17 ERA, 38 2/3 IP).

Gutierrez hadn’t given up a hit entering the fifth, but ended up allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk.

Texas 3, Arkansas 1 — Top 5th Inning

The Razorbacks are on the scoreboard.

Dakota Kennedy grounded out and Karlie Davison flied out to left field before an Atalyia Rijo single through the right side gave Arkansas its first hit of the game.

Kailey Wyckoff mishit an infield single in the next at-bat to give the Razorbacks runners at first and second with 2 outs.

Kennedy Miller then hit a ball to shortstop that had crazy spin, ricocheting through the left side for an RBI single.

Miller advanced on a throw to third base, giving Arkansas a pair of runners in scoring position with Reagan Johnson coming to the plate.

Texas 3, Arkansas 0 — End 4th Inning

Saylor Timmerman had a good inning in the circle.

Kaiah Altmeyer flied out to center field before Jaycie Nichols and Ashton Maloney struck out swinging back-to-back to end the inning.

Due up for Arkansas: Dakota Kennedy, Karlie Davison and Atalyia Rijo.

Texas 3, Arkansas 0 — Bottom 4th Inning

Hannah Wells crushed a leadoff home run to tack on another run for the Longhorns. It was her 11th homer of the year.

Arkansas is making a pitching change, replacing Payton Burnham with Saylor Timmerman.

Texas 2, Arkansas 0 — Middle 4th Inning

Arkansas is still without a hit through 4 innings.

Reagan Johnson was robbed of a leadoff hit on a diving grab by Kayden Henry in center field. 

Brinli Bain gave the Razorbacks their first base runner of the game with a 1-out walk.

Ella McDowell flied out to left field for the inning’s second out, and Tianna Bell grounded out to first base to end the inning.

Texas 2, Arkansas 0 — End 3rd Inning

The Longhorns scored again in the third, but it could have been worse

Kayden Henry led off with an infield single and stole second base during Katie Stewart’s at-bat, which ended in a walk.

Viviana Martinez laid down a bunt and Arkansas threw her out at first, and Henry was sent home on the play. A strong throw home from Tianna Bell and tag my Ella McDowell got Henry out at the plate.

Reese Atwood brought a run home with an RBI single past third base. 

Leighann Goode flied out to center field to end the inning.

Arkansas will look to get the bats going the second time around facing Citlaly Gutierrez, with the top of the lineup due up: Reagan Johnson, Brinli Bain and Ella McDowell.

Texas 1, Arkansas 0 — Middle 3rd Inning

Citlaly Gutierrez made it through the Arkansas lineup one time around in just 28 pitches.

Atalyia Rijo popped up on the first pitch of the third inning for a quick first out.

Kailey Wyckoff nearly had a double down the left-field line but it was just inches foul. She eventually struck out swinging for the inning’s second out.

Kennedy Miller made good contact but flied out to right field to end the inning.

Texas 1, Arkansas 0 — End 2nd Inning

The Longhorns scored their first run of the series.

Reese Atwood struck out swinging before a 1-out walk drawn by Leighann Goode. 

Hannah Wells chopped an infield single to shortstop, which put runners on first and second for Texas.

Kaiah Altmeyer grounded into a fielder’s choice that got the runner out at second base, bringing Jaycie Nichols to the plate with runners on the corners and 2 outs.

Nichols delivered an RBI single down the left-field line, scoring Goode.

Ashton Maloney grounded out to end the inning.

Due up for Arkansas: Atalyia Rijo, Kailey Wyckoff and Kennedy Miller.

Arkansas 0, Texas 0 — Middle 2nd Inning

The Razorbacks haven’t had a base runner through 2 innings.

Tianna Bell was inches away from a single but grounded out to shortstop on a close play to lead off the inning. 

Dakota Kennedy got ahead in a count 3-1 but grounded out softly to first base for the second out, and Karlie Davison struck out looking to end the inning.

Arkansas 0, Texas 0 — End 1st Inning

Payton Burnham had to work for it, but she had a 1-2-3 first inning.

Kayden Henry and Katie Stewart flied out to deep center field in back-to-back at-bats to start the inning. Stewart’s flyout came after a 12-pitch at-bat.

Viviana Martinez then grounded out to end the inning.

Arkansas 0, Texas 0 — Middle 1st Inning

Citlaly Gutierrez got off to a strong start in the circle for Texas.

Reagan Johnson struck out swinging, Brinli Bain struck out looking and Ella McDowell grounded out to second base in a quick first inning.

Pregame

After winning 2-0 in a pitchers’ duel Thursday night, No. 7 Arkansas softball is looking to claim a road series at No. 5 Texas in Game 2 tonight.

The Razorbacks (40-9, 14-8 SEC) and Longhorns (38-9, 15-7) are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. on SEC Network+.

It has been raining here in Austin off and on all day, but things look like they should clear up in time for first pitch. The game was originally scheduled for 2 p.m.
