Panda Waste to add ‘surcharge’ on bin collections as fall out from Middle East conflict continues

It services over 300,000 companies and homes in Ireland, with the surcharge set to amount to an annual increase of €12 plus VAT or roughly 97c per month for these customers.

A spokesperson for Panda Waste said: “Due to the significant recent increases in the cost of fuel, Panda has been forced to apply a temporary fuel surcharge. Unfortunately, we can no longer continue to absorb this major increase in the cost of operating. This surcharge will be kept under review and will be discontinued as soon as fuel prices ease.”

A letter sent to customers this week read: “Like many businesses, Panda has been hit hard by the recent spike in fuel prices in the last month, driven by ongoing global instability. Until now, we’ve absorbed these rising costs ourselves to protect our customers from changes to their bill.

“Unfortunately, with prices continuing to climb, we are no longer able to do so without affecting the service you rely on.

Panda waste has upped it’s bills as it feels the squeeze from the price of fuel

“From May 2026, your invoice will include an itemised temporary fuel surcharge of €0.97 plus VAT per month.

“As an example, if you have 2 collections per month on a 3-bin collection service, the fuel surcharge works out at just over 16 cents plus VAT per collection.”

It also assured customers that the surcharge was temporary and would be “reviewed each month”.

The price increase follows on from the recent hike in February that saw Panda Waste raise the cost of collections by up to 9pc.

It raised its half-yearly service charge from €70 to €75, an increase of 7.14pc. Charges for the general waste bin also jumped from €13.50 per lift to €14.75, an increase of 9.26pc.

In April, the government announced a package of supports worth €500 million for the transport and agricultural sectors.

Meanwhile, other industries have also voiced concern over mounting pressure from fuel costs. The Construction Industry Federation has lobbied for the industry to be involved in the Fuel Subsidy Support Scheme, with confirmation of this on Tuesday.

In a statement earlier this month, it said: “The construction industry continues to feel the effects of global oil price shocks arising from the conflict involving Iran and its wider repercussions”.
