Rome, N.Y. — A shots fired call at a Oneida County gas station Monday evening led to three juveniles being briefly detained by Rome police, troopers said.
Troopers responded to the Circle K in the town of Verona Monday after receiving a shots fired call at about 6:52 p.m., troopers said in a news release Tuesday.
Law enforcement in the area was informed to look out for the vehicle the shots came from.
A short time later, the vehicle was found by Rome police on Curtis Street in Rome. A traffic stop was initiated and the three occupants inside were detained.
It was learned that two juveniles in the vehicle had fired a toy Orbeez gun and an Airsoft gun from the vehicle while traveling on Prospect Street and State Route 365 in the village of Oneida Castle. Witnesses reported seeing this and called 911, troopers said.
After reviewing surveillance footage and talking to witnesses, it was determined no incident occurred at the Circle K in Verona and the “guns” were all toys, troopers said.
The kids were released to their parents, they said.
