A 5-year-old Dutch boy is hospitalized in serious condition after he suffered head injuries in a hotel swimming pool on the island of Crete.
Authorities arrested three people: the boy’s father, a lifeguard and the hotel manager on duty.
According to local media, the boy allegedly slipped and fell into the pool with the head down and where he may have been unconscious for one or two minutes.
The 5-year-old was rushed with an ambulance to a nearby health center where it was intubated and from there to a public hospital in Heraklion, where it underwent a head surgery.
The minor is currently hospitalized in the Children’s Intensive Care Unit, with doctors closely monitoring his health condition.
The Dutch boy was spending vacations with his family in a hotel in Hersonissos. The accident took place on Tuesday, April 28, in the pool of the hotel where the family was staying.
A few hours after the accident, police handcuffed the child’s 36-year-old father for neglect, a 27-year-old lifeguard, as well as the temporary manager of the hotel, aged 48, while the hotel’s legal representative was being sought.
