A new chapter has begun in the city’s technological landscape, as Chief Minister Chandrababu, Minister Lokesh, and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone for a Google AI Data Hub in Tharuvaada. Union Minister Rammohan Naidu and representatives from Google also attended the event.

The arrival of the Google Data Centre is expected to transform Visakhapatnam into a central hub for AI data operations and submarine cable networks. Google is investing a total of ₹1.35 lakh crore in establishing these data centres, which will have a combined capacity of over 1 gigawatt across three locations. The company aims to have all three facilities fully operational by 2028.

The first phase involves setting up a data centre in Tharuvaada, for which the government has allocated 266.6 acres of land. Additional land has been allocated in Adavivaram (160 acres) and Rambilli in Anakapalli district (174.80 acres). The project is expected to create approximately 1.88 lakh jobs, with around 60,000 employment opportunities during the construction phase for skilled workers in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering.

Once operational, the Visakhapatnam AI Hub is set to become a vital gateway for Google Cloud services across the entire Asian region.
