South African social media users have joked about selling their stash of original ProNutro for a small fortune. This comes as the popular breakfast brand has come under fire for changing its recipe.

PepsiCo, the manufacturer, has responded to the backlash, vowing to tweak the formula.

SOUTH AFRICANS JOKE ABOUT SELLING ORIGINAL PRONUTRO

On TikTok, one South African – @prescribing_passports – joked about selling a box of original ProNutro cereal.

He posted: “One box of Original Chocolate flavour ProNutro available for trade for a full tank of petrol. One owner from new. No lowballers- I know what I’ve got”.

In the comments section, others joined in on the joke…

@didi: “I have half a box of chocolate flavour. Make me an offer”

@rippie89: “Willing to swap my car for it“

TWEAKING THE NEW RECIPE

Meanwhile, ProNutro has responded to the backlash of its new recipe.

In a Facebook post on its official account, it shared: “Change isn’t easy, especially when it involves something you love. The change of ProNutro has been challenging,  and we understand the disappointment it’s caused. While the fundamental texture won’t change back, we are working on improving the mixability for a better experience.

The cereal brand revealed that it would temporarily halt production to fix its formula.

It continued: “You may not see us on the shelf for a little while as we focus on these improvements, and this time, we promise to keep you updated along the way. 

“Thank you for sharing, for caring, and for giving us the chance to do better. We’re listening”.

PepsiCo has claimed that the new recipe – with reduced sugar and a new texture and taste – is a result of its move away from “ageing infrastructure and unreliable equipment performance”.
