South Korean president arrives in Hanoi, beginning state visit to Vietnam


President of South Korea Lee Jae Myung and his spouse arrived in Hanoi on Tuesday afternoon, beginning a four-day state visit to Vietnam.​

The visit is made at the invitation of Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse.

The Korean leader and his entourage were welcomed at Noi Bai International Airport by Chairman of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Dai Thang, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Vu Ho.

Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic relations on Dec. 22, 1992. In December 2022, the two countries established a framework for a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In 2025, bilateral trade reached US$89.5 billion, a 9.6% increase compared to 2024. In the first three months of the year, total import and export turnover between Vietnam and South Korea reached $26.9 billion, a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

As of the end of March 2026, South Korea continues to be Vietnam’s largest investor with 10,447 projects and a total registered capital of $98.9 billion, focusing on sectors such as manufacturing, high technology, electronics, automobiles and auto parts, construction, and real estate.

In 2025, South Korea was Vietnam’s second-largest source market for tourists, with 4.3 million arrivals, accounting for 21% of the total number of foreign tourists to Vietnam.

There are approximately 352,000 Vietnamese people in South Korea and 200,000 South Koreans living and doing business in Vietnam.
