Shivamogga Rangayana, a theatre repertory, has come up with a play, Swatantryada Ota (Run of Freedom), based on the award-winning novel by Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi. This is one among the major theatre productions of Shivamogga Rangayana.

The government of Karnataka, in its 2025-26 budget, had earmarked ₹1 crore for staging the play. Theatre personality Nataraj Honnavalli has directed the play. The novel, published in 2012, received the Kendra Sahitya Academy award in 2016.
