Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Khatibzadeh stated: “We cannot set a date as long as we have not agreed on a framework.”

He added, “Our focus now is on finalizing the framework of understanding between the two sides. We do not wish for any negotiations or meetings that lead to a failure which could serve as a pretext for another round of escalation.”

Diplomatic Context and the Previous Stalemate
U.S. Perspective: A U.S. official previously noted that despite the first round ending without an agreement, the talks are viewed as part of an ongoing diplomatic process rather than a one-time attempt.

The Vance Delegation: The U.S. delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, departed Pakistan a week ago following the announcement that no deal had been reached.

The Nuclear Stumbling Block: At the time, Vance stated that negotiations concluded without an agreement after “the Iranians refused to accept U.S. conditions regarding the non-development of nuclear weapons.”
