Liberia: Folley Expands Community Impact with Major Development Initiatives in Margibi District 5

In his remarks, Folley emphasized that the ferry represents only the beginning of a broader development agenda for the region. KONOLA, DISTRICT FIVE – Margibi County District 5 Representative aspirant, Emmanuel Folley, has reinforced his connection with residents through a series of impactful engagements and donations designed to improve living conditions across multiple communities.

His outreach, which spanned key towns in the district, highlighted a hands-on approach to addressing long-standing challenges faced by citizens, particularly in transportation, healthcare, and education.

The day’s activities commenced in Sangai Town, where Folley presented a newly acquired ferry to residents, a move widely described as transformative for the area.

For years, citizens of Sangai and neighboring communities have struggled to cross the Borlor River, especially during the rainy season when rising water levels make passage extremely dangerous.

The ferry, valued at just over 108,000 Liberian Dollars, is expected to significantly ease movement and reduce the risks that have led to multiple tragedies in the past.

In his remarks, Folley emphasized that the ferry represents only the beginning of a broader development agenda for the region. He assured residents that additional interventions are already being planned, including the construction of a hand pump to provide safe drinking water, another critical need repeatedly raised by community members.

He stated, “This ferry is not just a means of crossing the river, it is a symbol of our shared commitment to progress and dignity. Our people deserve safe, reliable access to their farms, schools, and markets, and this is one step toward making that a reality.”

Providing further insight into what motivated his intervention, Hon. Folley explained that his decision was shaped by direct engagements with residents who shared personal stories of hardship and loss.

He noted that during previous visits, he listened to accounts of children missing school, traders losing income, and families mourning loved ones due to unsafe crossings. These encounters, he said, underscored the urgency of immediate action and reinforced his resolve to prioritize practical solutions that directly impact daily life.

He elaborated that the situation in Sangai Town reflects a broader pattern of neglect in rural communities, where basic infrastructure remains lacking despite years of appeals.

Beneficiaries of the project also shared heartfelt appreciation for Folley’s initiative. One resident remarked, “For many years, we have cried for help, and today we are finally being heard. This ferry will save lives, it will help our children get to school safely, and it will allow us to carry our goods to market without fear. Folley has shown us that true leadership listens and acts.”

According to him, addressing such gaps requires leadership that is both responsive and proactive. “What prompted this intervention was not politics, it was the voices of the people,” he said. “When you hear mothers speak about losing their children to a river crossing, or farmers explain how their livelihoods are disrupted, you cannot remain indifferent. Leadership must respond with urgency and compassion.”

Folley further added, “I am committed to ensuring that development is not just discussed during campaigns but delivered in real, measurable ways. This ferry is part of a larger vision where every community in District 5 feels seen, heard, and supported. We will continue to identify challenges and respond with solutions that uplift our people.”

Receiving the ferry on behalf of the community, Town Chief Sangay Flomo expressed profound gratitude for the intervention. She highlighted the severe dangers residents have endured over the years, particularly during the rainy season when the river becomes nearly impassable.

According to her, the ferry will serve as a lifeline not only for Sangai Town but also for more than fifteen surrounding towns and villages, including Sensee Town, Konos Town, Denia Town, and Borbor Town.

Another community member stated, “We have lost too many people trying to cross this river. What Hon. Folley has done is something we will never forget. He did not just make a promise, he fulfilled it. This gives us hope that our community will continue to see real development.”

A third beneficiary added, “This is more than a donation, it is a blessing for all of us. Our daily struggles have been reduced because of this intervention. We are grateful and we stand ready to support leaders who genuinely care about the people.”

Continuing his outreach, Folley traveled to Gbays Town, where he honored a previous commitment by donating 30,000 Liberian Dollars to the Slocum Medical Clinic.

The contribution is intended to support the clinic’s operations and improve healthcare services for residents in the area. During the brief program, he reiterated his commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and pledged to construct a modern, well-equipped clinic, with work expected to begin early next year.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the facility, Officer-In-Charge Mother Miatta Kelly described the support as timely and critical. She explained that the clinic is currently facing serious shortages of essential medical supplies and equipment, and noted that the donation will significantly enhance their ability to serve the community.

The final stop of the day took place in Weala, where Hon. Folley made an initial donation of 12 bags of cement to the Student Council Government of the Woody Foundation School.

The materials will support the construction of a Peace Hall, a project aimed at providing students with a dedicated space for leadership development, dialogue, and community engagement. He further pledged continuous support until the project is fully completed.

In response, the school’s Principal, Oretha Ketter, praised Hon. Folley for his contribution, noting that the Peace Hall will have a lasting impact on both students and the broader community.

Across all engagements, Folley’s actions conveyed a consistent message centered on practical solutions, community-driven development, and responsive leadership. His growing presence and tangible contributions continue to resonate strongly with residents, many of whom view his approach as a clear demonstration of commitment to improving lives and fostering sustainable progress in Margibi District 5
