If you’re looking for something fun to do in Reykjavík this weekend, you’re in the right place!
Today (April 17), at 18:00, Edda Karólína Ævarsdóttir opens her solo exhibition Allt fram streymir at Herma. Through large-scale wooden sculptures, the artist reflects on constant change: in the world, in the mind, in our physical beings.
The sophomore iteration of RVK Noise Fest kicks off tomorrow at R6013, with acts taking the stage on Saturday and Sunday. Curious who exactly works at the Grapevine? Saturday is the yearly Record Store Day! To mark the occasion, most record stores have got an event going on; for instance, Smekkleysa is hosting a single release party for electronic trio ex.girls, Reykjavík Record Shop promises extended hours and candy, and 12 Tónar has a yet-to-be-announced schedule. Whether your favourite shop is participating in the day or not, be sure to stop by and fund music purveyors and the musicians behind them.
Iceland’s favourite gas station exhibition space, Y Gallery, has an opening at 15:30, where multimedia artists Sigurður Ámundason and Jóhannes Atli Hinriksson present their duo exhibition Hagverur / Homo Economicus.
In the evening, at 21:30, Spouses is this week’s Straumur guest, which will kick off at 21:30 at Kaffibarinn.
On Sunday, if you’ve missed the exhibition Ó at Glerhúsið, it’s your last chance to see it! They’ll be hosting a finissage at 13:00. The same goes for Harmonic Tremor by Ben Frost & Francesco Fabris at Nýló: Sunday is the final day, and the exhibition will be open from 12:00 to 18:00.

Nai Barghouti & Band

A singer and a flautist, Nai Barghouti’s evocative, emotive, and goose-bump-inducing style is attention-catching, whether you’re seeing her on a stage worldwide or on social media. She took the time to speak with us before her concert, and told us about her music education in her native Palestine, her unique vocal style, and what the Icelandic audience can anticipate from her four-piece band. The day after her performance, April 18, she’ll return to Harpa for an open Q&A, welcoming those curious about her work and experience. ISH
Turturi, Laglegt, <333 Trio

As the artists have put it, the three projects will come together for “a dreamy night of bubbles, singing pebbles and a little bit of mystery” on Friday. You’ll be able to see: Turturi, an exploratory project that has performed in Upprásin, and is currently finishing their debut album; Laglegt, the stage-name of Sigríðar Langdal, whose singer-songwriter pieces are delicate and emotional; and <333 Trio, the project of musicians Salóme Katrín, Erla Hlín Guðmundsdóttir (Amor Vincit Omnia), & Maria-Carmela Raso (MSEA). For intentional, well-crafted music, look no further than this concert. ISH
Sara Björg Bjarnadóttir — Wind Eye / Reto Lauthold & Paul Lipp — Flat Earth Round Tables

In this double opening, artist Sara Björg Bjarnadóttir presents works that use windows to explore light, air, and sound. The works are shifting and changing as the visitor observes, and the visitor themself must adjust their perspective as these changes occur. Artist duo Lipp & Leuthold collaborate on the canvas and in sculpture, working together to create works that “neither could have created alone.” ISH
Landvernd: Hálendishátíð (Highlands Festival)

On Sumardagurinn fyrsti (The First Day of Summer), the Icelandic Environment Association is putting on two events: a Green Parade at 13:30, and their annual Hálendishátíð. Hálendishátíð is a benefit festival for the Icelandic Highlands, and this is their third iteration. What better way to celebrate the beginning of summer than going to a festival where proceeds go towards protecting the environment for generations to come! To boot, they’ve got a great lineup: KUSK & Óviti, lúpína, gugusar, Daði Freyr, and Biggi Veira. ISH
