‘Hope after the Storm’ special offers waived dog adoption fees

Rico and Hapa are at the Hawaiian Humane Society, waiting for a forever home. HHS has launched a “Hope After the Storm” adoption special, waiving all adoption fees from today to the end of April.

The Hawaiian Humane Society begins a “Hope After the Storm” adoption special, beginning today, waiving all adoption fees for all dogs seven months and older.

The special lasts through the end of the month, and is made possible through the sponsorship of Karl and Alice Blade and the Ginny Tiu ohana.

“When fewer barriers stand in the way, more dogs find their way home,” said Anna Neubauer, president and CEO of the Hawaiian Humane Society, in a news release. “But when we waive an adoption fee, the care behind it remains the same. … What we know, and what research confirms, is that a family’s ability to love and care for a pet has nothing to do with what they paid to bring one home. Specials like this one let us act on that.”

The Kona-low storms brought more than 400 stray and displaced pets to its two campuses in Moiliili and Ewa Beach, according to the Society.

On average, HHS typically gets an average of about 30 pets daily brought into its care. In the aftermath of the storm, the average increased to about 40 pets per day.

The waived adoption fees are available at the Moiliili campus, the Kosasa Family campus at Ho‘opili, and at the Petco Hawaii Kai off-site adoption event this Saturday.

Don’t miss out on what’s happening!

The Society also welcomes short-term fosters for its Couch Crashers and Lap Crashers program.

HHS has also launched a storm resource page with details on what to do if a pet was lost or found during or after the storm, and details on its pet food banks.

Every dog under the Society’s care has been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and cleared by its veterinary services and behavior teams.
