Lafayette crash leaves vehicle overturned in ditch | News

A Lafayette crash on Wednesday night left one driver in critical condition, according to police.

Police say the incident happened around 10:36 p.m. in the 5000 block of West Congress Street, where officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to reports of a serious single-vehicle accident.

When first responders arrived, they found the vehicle overturned in a ditch off the roadway.

The driver had to be extricated from beneath the vehicle before being rushed to a nearby hospital. Preliminary findings from investigators indicate the vehicle was traveling westbound when, for reasons still unknown, it veered off the right side of the road. The vehicle entered a ditch, struck a driveway, and ultimately flipped onto its roof, trapping the driver underneath.

Emergency medical personnel transported the driver to a local hospital, where they were intubated and remain in critical condition.

Authorities noted there was no immediate evidence at the scene to suggest alcohol or narcotics played a role in the crash.

This investigation remains ongoing.
