LINCOLN, NEB. (KLKN) – History was witnessed by many Americans on Friday night, including those right here in Lincoln.

A large crowd watched intensely as the Artemis II astronauts splashed into the Pacific Ocean to conclude their historic mission to the moon.

It was a splashdown watch party at the Branched Oak Observatory near Raymond, and the public got to experience this historic moment together.

“Talking about like-minded people, and all getting to experience history together,” said Matt Anderson, the Executive Director.

A few dozen people were in attendance, and they say that being alive and seeing this moment with their own eyes means a lot.

“To be part of something new, something that’s the first of its kind, it’s really special,” said Jan Hayhurst.

While tonight was a night to remember, it was also a learning moment. Anderson says that’s what it should all be about.

“It’s changed my whole perspective on space and stuff like that,” said Maxx Sullivan.

It’s all about education, and getting people excited about not only space and astronomy, but also space travel,” Anderson said.

The attendees also enjoyed snacks and purchased specially designed Artemis II t-shirts.
