Agartala: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 16 crore in Tripura on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint operation was carried out in the Teliamura area under Khowai district. Security personnel intercepted a Mahindra pick-up vehicle bearing registration number TR01AY-1674 and conducted a thorough search.
Officials said around 2 lakh Yaba tablets—a synthetic drug widely trafficked across the Northeast, were recovered from the vehicle.
One individual, identified as Raju Deb (44), a resident of Jalilpur in West Tripura district, was apprehended in connection with the seizure. The accused, along with the contraband and the vehicle, has been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Authorities said the operation underscores the continued efforts of Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence to curb the growing menace of drug trafficking in the region. Security forces have intensified surveillance and intelligence-based operations to dismantle narcotics networks operating along interstate and international routes.
The seizure is being seen as a significant success in ongoing anti-narcotics efforts in Tripura, which has increasingly emerged as a transit corridor for illicit drugs.
