UNION TOWNSHIP (Union) — Masked gunmen entered a popular fast food restaurant along Route 22 in Union County on Saturday night, opening fire and shooting several victims, according to multiple reports.

Around 9 p.m., the awful scene unfolded at the Chick-fil-a in Union Township. The location operates Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Multiple victims, including employees, reported

At least six people were struck by bullets, and one person died, according to former Assemblyman Jamel C. Holley, who shared bits and pieces about the active investigation.

“Officials have confirmed that at least six people were shot. One victim has been pronounced dead at the scene, while multiple others have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment,” Holley said on Facebook Sunday morning.

ABC7 Eyewitness News reported from the scene late Saturday night, saying that multiple people were shot, including Chick-fil-A workers, according to witnesses and a parent of one of the workers.

Investigation ongoing as police search for answers

As of 8 a.m., local and county police had not yet shared any official statement about the active investigation, including whether any suspects were in custody.

The Chick-fil-A is located in the center island of Route 22 a bit west of the old and distinctive, ship-shaped concrete building that now houses P.C. Richard and Son.

These 31 convicted killers were pardoned by Gov. Murphy

In a one year span, Gov. Phil Murphy granted clemency to over 283 individuals convicted of various crimes. Of those, at least 31 have been pardoned and released early from state prison after they were convicted of murder and aggravated manslaughter. After release, each person is subject to five years of parole supervision.
