Shore to Shore: The healing power of Reflexology

SALISBURY, Md. — A downtown Salisbury business is teaching WMDT the ins and outs of massage therapy, promoting relaxation while reducing stress. In the newest edition of “Shore to Shore,” reflexology is front and center.

Certified reflexologist, ear seed practitioner, yoga instructor and nurse Stacey Kennedy said, “I apply pressure using my thumb or fingers, using a very specific technique. By applying pressure to those areas, it’s felt to correspond to other parts of the body and send signals along nerve pathways, increasing circulation.”

Pressure from reflexology activates the parasympathetic nervous system, causing the body to react in its most natural form. Kennedy explained how she made her way into this therapeutic practice.

“My journey with reflexology came from my own personal interest in finding complementary ways to help with some health issues that I have. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder in 2021,” Kennedy said.

With a strong belief in Western medicine, she needed another avenue to relax physically, emotionally and mentally.

“It helps to complement whatever Western medicine folks are using, and because of my knowledge, I’m able to incorporate that into my sessions,” Kennedy said.

Whether it be problems with mobility or an autoimmune disease, Kennedy said the treatment helps the body slow down.

“Autoimmune disease is often brought about by high levels of stress. You may have a genetic predisposition, but when the body is heavily impacted by stress or illness, that can get activated,” she said.

The relaxation helps heal stress and allows people to unwind.

“Ninety to 95% of my clients fall asleep within the first five minutes, and a large majority of them snore as well,” Kennedy said.

She welcomes people to try a session because everyone deserves to feel at peace.

“I let everyone know that you can be here no matter what mood you’re in, no matter what is going on with you or who you are. Everyone is accepted here,” Kennedy said.

For those who work in the downtown area, she offers a 20% discount.
