Madang Provincial Police Command has welcomed 10 new probationary police officers as preparations intensify for next year’s national elections and ongoing law-and-order operations in the province.
Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Robert Baim said the new officers were formally welcomed on Tuesday and will strengthen police manpower across Madang.
“I formally welcomed 10 of them into Madang Provincial Police Command on Tuesday,” he said.
He said more officers are still needed, especially with the national elections approaching next year.
“I really need manpower to go into elections next year and also to maintain law and order in the province,” he said.
Superintendent Baim said accommodation remains a major challenge for police in the province, but support has been confirmed for the new officers.
He said the provincial government will accommodate the 10 probationary officers in Madang.
“Accommodation will be the problem I face. At this time, accommodation is a challenge, but I sincerely appreciate Honourable Governor Pariwa and Provincial Administrator Daniel Aloi for stepping in,” he said.
He said accommodation support is critical as police strength is increased ahead of the elections.
He also called on provincial leaders to continue supporting police housing needs, including both male and female accommodation facilities.
The Madang Provincial Police Command said boosting manpower is necessary to improve policing coverage, maintain public order, and ensure readiness for the 2027 National General Elections.
