Defeat with no disgrace is hardly a lofty ambition but despite the obvious inevitability of this one, Scott Bemand’s Ireland will elicit deep disappointment at the manner of their demise against the reigning Six Nations and World champions.

England were often indifferent, Ireland too often diffident. The visitors failed to fire any meaningful shots, instead shooting themselves repeatedly in the foot.
