Pictures of fuel pumps quickly went viral as petrol prices climbed last month, marking the beginning of weeks of frustration that have culminated in the blockade of key transport routes and critical infrastructure across the country.

One Facebook group, which was set up in response to the last fuel crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, returned to action last month as prices began to spike following the outbreak of the war in Iran.
