Lamin Jawara, a resident of Busumbala, was remanded at Mile II Central Prison after being arraigned for the alleged killing of his son, Modou Lamin Jawara, which occurred on 20 March 2026.
Jawara appeared before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, where the prosecution requested that the case be transferred to the High Court due to the Magistrates’ Court’s lack of jurisdiction.
The application was approved, and he will face further proceedings at the High Court.
Little is known publicly about Jawara’s background or possible motive.
However, the case has drawn attention due to the tragic circumstances involving a parent and child.
Police have stressed that such incidents are a serious breach of law and social norms, particularly given the victim’s young age.
The Gambia Police Force has urged the public to remain calm and to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
“We call on all citizens to resolve conflicts peacefully and through lawful means,” a police said.
Jawara’s next court appearance at the High Court is awaited, where the matter will be examined in full.
