Say It Loud! Readers and Writers presents “What Happens When a Dream Isn’t Deferred,” the latest in its Tell the Story Literary Series, with featured presenter Marquese McFerguson, author (“Conversations in Color: Poetry, Prose, and Paintings”) and assistant professor of intercultural communications at Florida Atlantic University. The event takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Missionary Baptist Church Education Building, 701 S. Gaines St., Little Rock. The Rev. Cameron Mitchell, pastor of First Missionary Baptist, is discussion moderator; Matthew Caston, founder and CEO of Freedman Society, will be master of ceremonies.
The event is centered on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech, “I Have a Dream,” and Langston Hughes’ poem “Dreams.” Attendees will have the chance to meet and greet local authors who will share their stories about how their dreams came true, including Corey Obe Coleman, comic book creator and founder of If Life Comics; and Patrick Oliver (“On My Own: Vision Board Guidebook for Young People”).
The event is free. For more information visit speakloudly.com.
