President Donald Trump on Wednesday named just one step people can take to earn his love: simply be nice to him, no matter your reputation.
Trump, in a speech at an Easter lunch event in the East Room, was remarking on his Iran war when he appeared to get distracted by someone — seemingly a media figure, who has what he described as a “great show” — in the crowd.
“I love this guy. He’s so nice to me. Every time I watch,” said a smiling Trump in a clip shared by Kamala Harris’ “Headquarters” account on X.
“You know, we’re not supposed to be seduced that way, right? But I am. When somebody’s nice to me, I love that person,” continued the president, as members of the audience chuckled.
“Even if they’re bad people, I couldn’t care less. I’ll fight to the end for them. So, I appreciate it.”

“We have a regime change. They said ‘what do you mean you have regime change?…’ My friend, great show… I love this guy, He’s so nice to me. Every time I watch… you know, we’re not supposed to be seduced that way, but I am. When someone’s nice to me,… pic.twitter.com/2VFPAKL4dc

Over the years, Trump has gushed about his great friendships with dictators such as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the latter of whom he described as being “very nice” to him in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.
Trump has also appeared to be receptive toward his perceived enemies who are nice to him. He’s formed an unlikely relationship with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, calling him “even better looking in person” after meeting the democratic socialist, though he had criticized and feuded with him beforehand.
Trump included a shoutout to the mayor in his State of the Union address in February, describing Mamdani as a “nice guy” despite his “bad policy.”
Critics on X pounced on Trump’s comments, with Mehdi Hasan calling it one of the president’s “rare moments of just total honesty” and children’s author Michael Rosen writing that Trump’s statement should “not be interpreted as having any relation to, for example, someone by the name of Jeffrey Epstein.”
There are rare moments of just total honesty from Trump. He has said this many times before. It’s the ultimate proof of what a narcissist he is but also how amoral: he “couldn’t care less” if you’re a bad person as long as you are “nice” to him.

This statement should not be interpreted as having any relation to, for example, someone by the name of Jeffrey Epstein. https://t.co/R4AanZxrrw

of course this would make you unfit to be president, but let’s not forget… this would also make you unfit to host a competition reality show https://t.co/FouoGYhCy1

It’s called toxic narcissism and every heinous dictator in the world and domestic criminal takes advantage of it. https://t.co/4xI0OYuuEW
