Pink awakening: Northern Greece’s blossom spectacle draws Europe to Veroia

Tourists from across Europe are flocking to Veroia in northern Greece, to witness the ephemeral but remarkable natural phenomenon rising as one of Greece’s most striking seasonal attractions.

Euronews and Associated Press, reported that vast peach orchards—spanning some 170,000 acres—have burst into soft pink bloom. The blanket of soft pink has transformed the Imathia plain into a a magnificent impressionistic painting.

“I came all the way from Germany to this fabulous event, to have a look at the peach blossom which I absolutely adore. You have to come! It’s stunning and beautiful and heavenly,” said visitor Andrea Lachnit.

She is one of thousands who’ve come to witness the blossoms, wandering through rows of flowering trees. All capturing the photographs that have helped the event gain traction beyond Greece.

Behind the transient and delicate beauty is the hard year-round ardour of local producers.

“For all this to happen, it takes a lot of hard work – a lot of effort from us farmers. We are happy that this beautiful event is taking place, this great promotion for the wonderful product we have,” said Anastasios Chalkidis, president of the local farmers’ union.

While most visitors are still domestic, international interest is steadily growing.

“I want people in the Netherlands and Belgium to know what amazing places there are still… for example, Veria. More people know it,” said Dutch blogger Wesley Van Eyck.

Local organisers are leaning into that momentum. The Veroia Tourist Club has curated a program of events around the bloom, from photography sessions and cycling routes through the orchards to showcases of regional produce.

“It’s something that people should experience and see at least once in their lives,” said Yanna Pilitsidou, president of the Veroia Tourist Group. “It’s a huge area… that turns completely pink.”

For a few short weeks each year, Veroia trades its quiet agricultural rhythm for a burst of colour—and a new pin dropped in Europe’s spring travel map.
