A chilling discovery was made in the Athens suburb of Zografou late Sunday night (March 29, 2026), as police uncovered the bodies of a 91-year-old woman and her 56-year-old daughter in an advanced state of decomposition.
The victims were found inside a bedroom that had been meticulously sealed with putty. The family’s 54-year-old son has been detained and is currently being questioned by authorities.
The investigation began on March 26, when relatives alerted police to suspicions that the son may have harmed his mother and sister, who had been missing for months. Although no formal charges were initially filed, police began questioning the extended family to clarify the situation.
On March 29, officers returned to the family home on Kousidi Street in Zografou. The son initially denied them entry, claiming his relatives were living at a different address on Rodon Street. When police found that the second apartment was abandoned, they returned to the original residence. Upon inspecting the flat, they discovered a bedroom door sealed shut with caulk. After obtaining a prosecutor’s warrant, authorities entered the room to find the two women deceased.
Neighbors reported that the household was plagued by frequent arguments and that the son struggled with significant mental health issues. One neighbor told newsit.gr that a “foul odor” had been emanating from the apartment for at least a month and a half, noting that the son was reclusive and rarely opened the door to anyone.
