A 60-year-old man from the Czech Republic died on Friday afternoon on the island of Kalymnos in the eastern Aegean Sea.
The man fell from nearly 10 meters during climbing.
According to local Kalymnos News report, the incident occurred at the “Jurassic Park” climbing area, on the left side of a particularly steep slope, in the Armeos area.
Forces of the Kalymnos Volunteer Fire Service, the Kalymnos Rescue Team, as well as forces the Kos Fire Department launched immediately a Search And Rescue operation.
Due to the impassability of the terrain, air assistance was also requested. A helicopter arrived in the area, however, it encountered significant difficulties in approaching and locating the climber due to the weather conditions.
The SAR operation was continued by the ground rescue teams, who finally managed to locate the man who was unresponsive.
Under particularly difficult conditions, the man was transferred to an accessible location, where he was picked up by an ambulance, unconscious.
The 60-year-old Czech national was transferred to Kalymnos Hospital, where doctors could only confirm his death.
Authorities are looking into the cause of the accident.
