The 100 Novels Project is an ongoing performance artwork in which Tim Youd retypes novels from beginning to end in locations that play a central role in the novels. By retyping “True Grit” in Little Rock – the city where Portis once lived and worked – Youd honors one of Arkansas’ most iconic literary voices, using endurance, focus and time to reflect on and appreciate the novel’s enduring impact on American identity.

The Racing Festival of the South begins on Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28. The fourth and final leg of Oaklawn’s rich Kentucky Derby prep series culminates Saturday, March 28, with the $1.50 Million Arkansas Derby (G1). Watch, wager and experience the thrill of the BIGGEST race of the south! Oaklawn’s famous infield activities will be held on Friday and Saturday. And don’t forget to wear your finest hat on Saturday for a chance to take home incredible prizes for the Arkansas Derby Hat Contest!

This one-of-a-kind event features hyper-realistic, fully animatronic animals, including lions, tigers, elephants, pandas, monkeys, a smoke-breathing 40ft King Cobra, brand-new dinosaurs, and, of course, the famous Deep Dish Cookies! You definitely don’t want to miss this one!

The Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt is a massive, multi-day, 600+ mile regional yard sale event featuring vendors, antiques and thrifting across South Arkansas. Covering areas like Benton, Camden, and Pine Bluff, it features widespread roadside sales along major routes 79 and 63.

 

“A Paradox of Plenty” – Thursday, March 26 – Sunday, March 29 (runs through May 3)

Where: Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (Little Rock)

Kentucky-based artist Lori Larusso’s painting installation playfully tumbles across the Robyn and John Horn Gallery with no regard for centerline. Her installations depict a parade of objects—the everyday, forgettable or sometimes nostalgic bits that we consume and discard. An upturned shopping cart spills its contents onto the ground like an ironic cornucopia. There is both humor and reason for reflection as these things take on coded meanings in new contexts.

 

“The Greatest Wildlife Photographs”  Thursday, March 26 – Sunday, March 29 (runs through June 7)

Where: the Momentary (Bentonville)

When: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Experience some of the most surprising animal behavior through the very best wildlife pictures from the pages of National Geographic Magazine. Curated by renowned nature picture editor, Kathy Moran, this exhibition is a celebratory look at wildlife with images taken by National Geographic’s most iconic photographers, such as Michael “Nick” Nichols, Steve Winter, Paul Nicklen, Beverly Joubert, David Doubilet and more. Showcasing the evolution of photography, the images convey how innovations such as camera traps, remote imaging and underwater technology have granted photographers access to wildlife in their natural habitat.

 

“America 250: Common Threads” – Thursday, March 26 – Sunday, March 29 (runs through July 27)

Where: Crystal Bridges Temporary Exhibition Gallery (Bentonville)

When: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

In 2026, the United States will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. “America 250: Common Threads” will both commemorate the events of 1776 and reflect on 250 years of American art and civic participation. An early engraving of the Declaration of Independence will anchor a group of historic documents displayed alongside textiles, paintings, toys, and other works from 1776 to the present. The exhibition considers how artists and national leaders document American history. “America 250: Common Threads” explores how American artists historically foster civic participation and strengthen community relationships.

 

Bugtopia! Wonder Magnified!  – Thursday, March 26 – Sunday, March 29 (runs through Sept. 20)

“A MAN NAMED CASH,” a tribute to the music of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, features vocalist Eric Hofmanis, who was personally appointed by John Carter Cash and The Cash Estate as lead singer for their acclaimed “Johnny Cash The Official Concert Experience.” This is the only live concert tour ever produced in cooperation with The Cash Family Estate, and “A MAN NAMED CASH” is the ONLY Johnny Cash Tribute to feature an Estate-chosen lead singer.

 

Spring Tikes, Trikes and Trails – Friday, March 27

Where: Velocity Park (Hot Springs National Park)

Open to all ages, learn the history of the Hot Springs Creek and proper trail etiquette as you explore the Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail. Don’t have a bike? The department will have a limited supply of bikes that can be used at the event. Participants can bring their bikes, skateboards, scooters or wheelchairs to join in the fun! While supplies last, all participants will receive a t-shirt, a trail map and other free giveaway items.

 

7th Annual Adult Flashlight Egg Hunt – Friday, March 27

Where: BoBrook Farms (Roland)

When: 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

As the sun sets, gear up for an egg hunt like no other—in the dark! Bring your own flashlight and race against fellow hunters to uncover eggs filled with amazing prizes! The fun doesn’t stop with the hunt! Enjoy live music, keeping the energy high all evening. Plus, come hungry and thirsty. Organized by K&P Promotions, Hot Springs Havoc is a high-energy motorsports event. Attendees can expect heats and races across the two days with over 100 vehicles competing in an elimination-style format. Cash prizes up to $12,000 are up for grabs.

Head over to the Paws 4 Hope Vendor Fair, a community vendor market benefiting Wags of Hope, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue. Where: Begins at Markham/Broadway, ends at Capitol/Louisiana (Little Rock)

The Capital City Classic is an event for the whole family! A FREE kids’ race begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes before the start of the 10k. As with the 10k, all participants in the kids’ race receive a medal and a t-shirt! $7,000 in prize money will be awarded in 2026! Prize money will be paid to the top 5 male and female finishers.

The event commemorates the moment in 1958 when Elvis Presley received his G.I. haircut at Fort Chaffee upon entering the U.S. Army—a moment often referred to as “the haircut heard ’round the world.” Visitors will have the unique opportunity to get a haircut in the very place where that historic event occurred.

Where: Meet at Sam’s Club at 745 W El Camino Alto (Springfield, Missouri)

This scenic route includes paved roads and maintained gravel. The stops, in order, are: “Little Golden Gate” (classic photo stop at Beaver Bridge), Thorncrown Chapel, The Great Passion Play grounds and The Crescent Hotel. Then, you’ll grab lunch anywhere you want in town. Prepare for easy cruising, great views and fellowship. Non-wheelers are welcome–this is a scenic social run.
