A real estate office in St Julian’s is turning into an art space, and it’s kicking things off with a pretty personal exhibition.
“Bejnietna / Between Us”, a new collaborative show by Maltese artists Karen Caruana and Matthew F. Cassar, is opening on 2nd April inside the newly refurbished Remax Prime Malta office.
And this isn’t just a random pairing. The two artists are long-time friends who reconnected through this very space, deciding to exhibit side by side after years of working separately – Cassar now based in Milan, and Caruana in Malta.
The title “Bejnietna” (meaning “between us”) says a lot. It reflects both the collaboration itself and that familiar phrase you say before sharing something personal. And that’s exactly the vibe of the exhibition.
Presented together, the works feel like an ongoing conversation. Faces, figures and symbolic scenes appear to interact across the room, with some pieces feeling reflective and others more intense or cautionary. It’s less about a single theme and more about that back-and-forth between two perspectives shaped by time, distance and shared history.
While both artists work with oil, acrylic and mixed media, their styles bring different energies to the space.
Caruana leans into introspective, emotionally driven imagery, while Cassar focuses on the human form with bold colour and expressive, gestural strokes. He also takes things a step further by painting on clothing, turning garments into wearable extensions of his work.
The exhibition will run until 2nd May and marks the second show hosted in this newly revamped office, led by franchise owner Jenny Yang. The idea is to transform the space into an ongoing cultural spot, with monthly exhibitions that bring art into a more everyday setting.
In short, “Bejnietna” isn’t just about the paintings on the wall, it’s about reconnection, shared stories, and what happens when two artists pick up a conversation where they left off.
