PM Orpo and Martin to Discuss Ireland’s Upcoming EU Presidency and Key International Issues in Helsinki Meeting | Finland Today | News in English

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) and Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin are scheduled to meet in Helsinki next Tuesday. Their bilateral discussions, according to the Finnish government’s office, “will likely focus on Ireland’s forthcoming EU Presidency and various current international matters.”

Ireland is set to assume the presidency of the European Union starting July 1, 2026. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo noted that Ireland’s tenure will involve important decision-making.

Negotiations on the EU’s financial framework for 2028–2034 could conclude by year-end. Prime Minister Orpo emphasized in a statement that Finland must quickly act on decisions to boost competitiveness and strengthen the single market, as agreed in March.

In addition to meeting with Prime Minister Orpo, Irish Prime Minister Martin will also hold talks with President Alexander Stubb during his visit to Finland.
