City to open help center in Waialua; North Shore boil water notice lifted

City officials said today that they will open a Community Assistance Center on Thursday at Waialua District Park for residents affected by Kona-low storm flooding.

Separately, the Board of Water Supply said the boil water notice has been lifted for all of Haleiwa and Waialua after water samples collected from Pupukea Road to 68-431 Farrington Highway in Waialua were negative for bacteriological contamination and verified safe to drink.

The Community Assistance Center will provide in-person assistance, resources, and information from city agencies and community partners, officials said.

The center will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with services that include personnel from:

>> Honolulu Emergency Services Department for basic medical assessments and care, help with replacing lost prescriptions, and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.

>> Department of Planning and Permitting with information and support for emergency permitting needs.

>> Department of Housing and Land Management with information on available housing options in city properties.

>> Department of Customer Service to help with replacement of lost driver’s licenses and state IDs, and with information about registration fees for damaged or destroyed vehicles.

>> Department of Community Services with kupuna resources and handbooks, down payment and rental assistance, and other home support services.

>> The Board of Water Supply with information on billing in impacted areas.

>> Office of Economic Revitalization with help for businesses and farmers, along with language access support.

In addition, officials from the state Department of Health, Vital Records office will help with replacing lost documents, including birth, marriage, and death certificates, and Hawaii Department of Health officials will answer questions and provide information about safe clean up. Organizations including American Red Cross, Aloha United Way, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, and the Hawaii Foodbank, will also be available, as will representatives from utility providers and internet and phone service companies. Free Wi-Fi will be available, along with a charging station for phones, computers, and other devices.
