Clocks Spring Forward on Sunday Morning as Daylight Saving Time Kicks In Again | Finland Today | News in English

Standard time ends and daylight saving time begins during the night between Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday morning, March 29, 2026, at 3:00 in the wee hours, clocks will be set forward by one hour.

This change is imposed simultaneously across all EU member states on the same days and at the same time, supposedly to ensure synchronization for international rail and air travel.

Since 1981, Finland has consistently observed both summer and standard time. The switch between summer and winter time follows a uniform practice throughout the European Union.

Daylight saving time is governed at the EU level by the Daylight Saving Time Directive. As long as this directive remains active, no member state can independently decide to opt out of changing clocks nationally.

Stopping clock changes means both the EU Council and the European Parliament must agree to cancel this rule.

The European Commission initially suggested in 2018 that the EU should stop changing clocks twice a year and abolish this directive.

However, the original schedule for carrying out this change has not been met.
