Fleeing & eluding: Engle Road

An unidentified man led police on a vehicle chase at about 11:45 p.m. June 1 into Cleveland.

The man was driving a Honda Civic. He failed to signal while turning out of a Sunoco station at 6313 Engle. He also didn’t stop before driving over the sidewalk, as required by law.

Police tried to pull over the Civic but the man kept driving northbound on Engle. He turned eastbound onto Snow Road and ran a red light. Then he entered Interstate 71 northbound.

The man weaved between lanes on the freeway and his speed exceeded 100 mph as police pursued. He exited onto Quigley Road, turned eastbound and sped through a red light at Steelyard Drive.

Police were ordered to terminate the chase. They knew that the owner of the Civic, a woman, was a passenger in the car.

Fraud, making false statements: Smith Road

A wanted Parma woman, 37, was arrested at about 6:30 a.m. June 10 at Planet Fitness, 5755 Smith.

Police went to Planet Fitness to check on the woman’s welfare. Someone reported that the woman was sitting on a bench outside the business, possibly ingesting methamphetamine.

When police arrived, the woman was still on the bench, holding her knees to her chest. Her shirt covered her legs and she wasn’t wearing shoes.

The woman told police she was OK, saying she was waiting for her parents to pick her up. A Planet Fitness worker had told her she was not allowed to wait inside the business.

The woman provided what police later learned was a false Social Security number and fake name. After further questioning by police, the woman finally gave her correct name.

Police learned the woman was wanted in several cities. They placed her in handcuffs.

Criminal damaging: Sheldon Road

An unidentified woman slashed the tires of a Maple Heights man’s Jeep Cherokee, which was parked on Sheldon.

The victim reported the incident at about 2:30 a.m. June 10. He said he had just met the woman at a bar. Then they climbed into his Jeep and started driving around.

During the ride, the victim and woman started arguing. He parked the Jeep and went for a walk. Shortly afterward, as he walked back toward his vehicle, he saw the woman slash his two passenger-side tires.

The woman was gone by the time police arrived. The victim said he reported the incident “for safety reasons” and didn’t want to press charges against the woman.

Fleeing & eluding: Engle Road

An unknown male riding a motorcycle led police on a high-speed chase at about 6:30 p.m. May 30.

Police had tried to pull over the male on southbound Engle near Holland Road because his bike didn’t have a license plate.

The male ran a red light on Engle at Holland and turned westbound onto Holland. He accelerated and performed a wheelie on his bike. He rode through a stop sign on Holland at Eastland Road and turned northbound onto Eastland.

The male ran another red light on Eastland at Ohio 237. He turned onto 237 northbound, where his speed reached 92 mph.

Police ended the pursuit for the safety of other drivers.

Theft: Richard Drive

An electric bicycle was stolen between 9 p.m. June 9 and 8:30 a.m. June 10 from a garage on Richard.

The victim had left the garage door open but a small wooden fence blocking the driveway had been closed.

Operating a vehicle under the influence: Brookpark Road

An Avon Lake man was arrested at about 12:30 a.m. June 11 after police caught him driving drunk on Brookpark between Interstate 71 and Ohio 237.

Police had stopped the man’s Ford Explorer because he was driving without headlights. The man’s eyes were bloodshot. Police noticed an empty beer bottle on the vehicle floor.

Police learned the man was the subject to a protection order. They smelled alcohol in the Explorer. The man failed field sobriety tests.

Police found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the Explorer and 44 bullets in the vehicle’s glove compartment. He was not allowed to carry a gun due to the protection order.

Theft: Brookpark Road

A Cleveland man told police June 9 that his debit card was stolen when he was in Shell, 13030 Brookpark.

The man said he went to Shell at about 2:30 p.m. June 7 to fill his tank. He paid for the gas with his debit card, which he accidentally and unknowingly left in the gas pump credit card machine.

At about 3:15 p.m. the same day, the man’s bank notified him that his debit card had been used to buy $524 in merchandise at Target in WestGate Mall in Fairview Park.

The man returned to Shell, where a gas station security camera showed a tow truck stopping at the same pump the Cleveland man had used immediately after the man left the station.

The tow truck driver pulled the man’s debit card out of the pump credit card machine and dropped it on the ground. Then the driver picked up the card and slipped it into his pocket.

Detectives are investigating.

Animal noises: Switzer Road

Police were called to a Switzer home at about 10:30 p.m. June 10 about a dog barking in the backyard.

When police arrived, they heard the dog still barking. Police knocked on the front door of the home but nobody answered.

Police referred the incident to the city’s animal control officer.
