INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Russian citizen was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for hacking into companies, including ones here in Indiana.
Aleksei Volkov, 26, got 81 months in prison for assisting cybercrime groups. A news release issued Monday from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana and the U.S. Department of Justice said Volkov gained and sold access to companies’ computer networks.
He and his conspirators infected networks with malware and requested a ransom. They got more than $9 million.
Volkov agreed to pay restitution to the victims.
The release did not include a booking photo for Volkov.
