Vanuatu now has a new Public Prosecutor, with Simcah Blessing Boe officially appointed to the role.
His Excellency Nikenike Vurobaravu made the appointment last Friday, following advice from the Judicial Service Commission.
Mr Boe’s appointment, which took effect on 23 March, marks only the second time an indigenous Ni-Vanuatu has held the position of Public Prosecutor, making it a significant moment for the country’s justice sector.
The Ministry of Justice and Community Services Vanuatu described the appointment as a new chapter, highlighting Mr Boe’s many years of legal experience, his strong track record in handling complex criminal cases, and his commitment to upholding the rule of law.
Following his appointment, Mr Boe paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Justice, Job Andy, who expressed pride in seeing a Ni-Vanuatu rise to such a high-level position within the legal system.
Prior to this role, Mr Boe served as Acting Public Prosecutor from 4 August 2024, after the term of former Public Prosecutor Josaia Naigulevu came to an end.
Originally from Maewo Island, Mr Boe holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the South Pacific and a Master of Laws in Corporate, Commercial and Taxation Law from the University of Sydney in Australia. He also holds a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice.
