Qatar PM-FM discusses regional escalation with EU foreign policy chief – Doha News

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission called for de-escalation.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani received a phone call from Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

According to the statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, during the call, the two officials reviewed the developments related to the military escalation in the region amidst U.S.-Israel-Iran war, which started on February 28.

“ …and its serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability, as well as ways to resolve all disputes through peaceful means,” the statement said.

Sheikh Mohammed renewed, during the call, his condemnation of the Iranian attacks on Qatari territories, stating that they cannot be accepted under any pretext or justification.

“In this context, he pointed out that the State of Qatar has always been keen to distance itself from regional conflicts and has sought to facilitate dialogue between the Iranian side and the international community,” the statement read.

For her part, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission called for de-escalation.

“ …upholding the voice of reason, and returning to negotiations and diplomatic means to avoid further chaos,” the statement added.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the Iranian targeting of energy facilities constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of international law, and a serious threat to global energy security, the environment, and freedom of navigation.

He emphasised, in this regard, the necessity of sparing the region the consequences of these unjustified attacks, and working to de-escalate in order to restore security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
