The Rangers took Friday night’s opener of a three-game weekend set in Pittsburgh, where they jumped Pirates starter Mike Burrows early to give ace Jacob deGrom all the support he needed. The right-hander gave up five hits and two runs with seven strikeouts over six quality innings to improve to 7-2 this season with a 2.24 ERA that ranks as sixth-best in baseball.

The Saturday pitching matchup between these teams will be more of a wild card. The Rangers turn to struggling righty Kumar Rocker (2-4, 7.31 ERA) against Pirates righty Mitch Keller, who ranks among the unluckiest pitchers in baseball with his 4.08 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 1-9 record in 15 starts this season. While the Pirates are 19-20 at home, they are notably better at PNC Park than on the road, where they own Major League Baseball’s third-worst record (11-27).
