KOROR, Palau (March 19, 2026) — “The Rengulbai Brikul Memorial Scholarship represents more than financial assistance. It reflects the enduring legacy of the leaders and chiefs who believed education is the foundation for progress and the empowerment of future generations,” said Bouveau K. Anastacio, vice-chairwoman of the Rengulbai Brikul Memorial Scholarship Foundation Inc.
In the 1990s, the late Brikul Ngiruchelbad—known by his traditional title Rengulbai—stepped up as chairman of the Aimeliik Public Land Authority to steer tense negotiations with Palau Golf Inc. over a proposed golf course development in Aimeliik State. Rallying the state’s chiefs, he forged consensus to secure lasting gains for residents, Anastacio said.
The payoff: $50,000 in seed money from a 99-year lease, plus $10,000 yearly contributions that have powered the scholarship through decades of shifting politics and administrations. It stands as a beacon of visionary leadership and community commitment, she added. For Aimeliik youth battling soaring living costs, the scholarship delivers real relief—covering tuition, textbooks, supplies, meals and daily essentials as they chase higher education. “It offers students peace of mind and encouragement, allowing them to focus on their studies and future goals while knowing their community believes in their potential,” Anastacio said
The foundation targets applicants with diligence, rock-solid character and a deep drive to serve Aimeliik. Top picks show leadership spark, future-focused vision and eagerness to leverage education for community uplift, she explained. Long-term, the group vows to keep scholarships flowing for generations, teaming with the Governor’s Office and Aimeliik Legislature to target high-need fields. Future expansions could aid eighth-graders relocating for high school and broaden awards into vocational paths. “By encouraging ongoing community involvement and developing sustainable funding sources, the foundation aims to keep the program strong and accessible to future students,” Anastacio said.
