MIA arrests Patrol and Defense Police Officers for misconduct

Georgia: The General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested two employees of the Defense Police Department and the Patrol Police Department.

The staff of the General Inspection arrested the patrol inspector of the Tbilisi main authority of the Patrol Police Department for taking a bribe, based on the judge’s order.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia shared the glimpses of the arrest made by them on its official Facebook Page on March 17, 2026, Tuesday. The Georgian Ministry also shared a small note about the arrest, along with its glimpses.

An investigation has determined that the accused, born in 1982, Yakob Katsadze, accepted cash as a bribe in exchange for illegally checking various individuals at the MIA information center and providing relevant information.

The investigation is underway under Article 338 of the Criminal Code, which provides for imprisonment for 6 to 9 years. The Inspector General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested the security police officer on charges of abuse of power and fraud, following a judge’s order.

An investigation has found that the head of the Adjara Defense Police General Authority, born in 1981, Carlo Urushadze, abused his authority – in particular, by periodically telling employees under his subordinate to enter false data in the orders about the protection of non-waste cargo, including as the enforcers of the protection of nonwaste cargo, referring to the staff close to him, who are Actually, they were not carrying out the mentioned activity. As a result, the persons mentioned in the orders were periodically paid cash supplements, which essentially violated the legal interest of the state.

Employees of the General Inspection arrested Carlo Urushadze as a defendant as a result of investigations. The investigation is underway under Article 332 Section 1 and Article 341 of the Criminal Code, which provides for imprisonment from 2 to 4 years.
