Life sentence upheld for church security guard killer

A jury convicted Mark Ward of first-degree murder in 2022 for the death of Daniel Bourne.

SANTA FE, N.M. — The New Mexico Supreme Court unanimously upheld the conviction of a man who killed a local church security guard.

A jury convicted Mark Ward of first-degree murder back in 2022 for the death of Daniel Bourne. Bourne was a security guard at Calvary Church in Albuquerque.

Ward ran over Bourne in the church parking lot while he was on duty, Then, Ward hid his body in a nearby arroyo.

Ward appealed his life sentence, claiming evidence didn’t back his conviction. However, the court unanimously rejected his arguments.
