“We have a new centrality here, and we will not give it up. […] It is our commitment and our commitment will materialize, by the end of this year, with the increase from 24 to 26 movements per hour, with the help of NAV and all operators, to further reinforce this growth that we want to be sustained, ambitious, and that places Porto and this entire macro-region at the centre of national airport policy,” said the official.
Pinto Luz was speaking during the ceremony this morning, which marked the 80th anniversary of Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, with the official inauguration of the runway after structural reinforcement works, and the new Airport Operational Centre, an event attended by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro.
In this context, the Minister addressed the representatives of Vinci, the company that manages Portuguese airports, present at the ceremony, to emphasise that “the commitment to the Government is clear” and that there is no longer “time for further delays” or “indecision”.
Investment in other airports
“The investment is clear in all national airports; we will not give up on them. Therefore, at Humberto Delgado [airport], and in the future Vaz de Camões [airport], we are setting the pace. Vinci is fulfilling its commitments, but it is also fulfilling its commitments with the investment in the old Humberto Delgado, so that we can equip that facility with almost double the number of boarding bridges currently available and put it at the service of the Portuguese people by 2034, 2035, or 2036, when Vaz de Camões becomes available,” he argued.
