Death toll from landslides in Ethiopia rises to 125 people

Addis Ababa – The government of the South Ethiopia Regional State announced a rise in the death toll. The deaths resulted from landslides. Heavy rains caused these landslides. They occurred in various parts of the Gamo Zone within the region.

The total number of fatalities reached 125 people. Authorities had confirmed 70 deaths by last Thursday. The regional government later announced the death toll increased to 125. The regional government’s communications office issued a statement.

It was posted on their Facebook page. The statement said over 11,000 people were displaced. They were forced to flee due to the disaster.
