INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man was arrested Saturday night after he provided alcohol to three juvenile females, police say.
A Facebook post from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says an IMPD officer “encountered three juvenile females after observing an adult male provide them with an alcoholic beverage.”
Police say the girls did not know the man and that he was armed with a handgun.
Although this incident occurred before curfew, officers transported them to the Connection Center where their parents came and picked them up. All three parents said that they thought the girls were with an adult at the time.
The Connection Center offers resources, mentorship, support, and plays an important role in helping young people make positive choices and stay on the right path.
“We want to give kudos to the observant officers who proactively intervened in what could have been a dangerous situation,” IMPD said in their post.
“Their awareness and willingness to step in made a difference. IMPD is proud of them for looking out for these young people and taking the time to ensure they were safe and connected with the right support. This is exactly the type of proactive policing that helps prevent problems before they escalate.”
Police say they are thankful to report this was the only use of the center this weekend and that no youth were brought in on Friday night.
This incident is an example of the intuitive IMPD is taking to ensure Indianapolis is as safe as possible and that our youth is protected.
