Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, Vice President of Sierra Leone, on Thursday 12th March 2026 served as the keynote speaker at the 52nd Government Council Meeting and High-Level Symposium of the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC), held at Lagoonda Hotel.
The event was hosted by the country’s Minister of Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray.
The high-level gathering brought together government officials, labour experts, and policy stakeholders to discuss the theme “Advancing Decent Work in the Platform Economy.” In his keynote address, Vice President Jalloh emphasized the need for African governments to strengthen labour policies and protections for workers operating in the rapidly growing digital and platform-based economy.
He highlighted the importance of inclusive employment opportunities, social protection systems, and modern labour regulations that can adapt to technological changes.
The symposium forms part of ARLAC’s ongoing efforts to promote improved labour administration, decent work standards, and sustainable employment across African countries. Participants used the meeting to exchange ideas on strengthening labour governance and addressing the emerging challenges brought about by digital transformation in the workplace.
Meanwhile, in a significant boost to Sierra Leone’s digital and employment sectors, the World Bank has approved $137 million in financing to support the country’s efforts to accelerate digital integration and expand job creation.
The funding is expected to improve digital infrastructure, promote innovation, and create opportunities for young people and entrepreneurs in the country.
Government officials say the initiative aligns with Sierra Leone’s broader development agenda aimed at harnessing technology to drive economic growth and employment. More details on the implementation and expected impact of the funding are expected to be released later.
